Terms of use
The rules for using Sol's cloud, in plain words. By signing in to it, you agree to them. Sol is in beta, and it is free while it is.
Who you are agreeing with
Sol is run by the team that makes it ("we"), not by a company yet; when one is formed, this line names it. You can reach us as Support says.
Who can use Sol
- You must be 13 or older, and old enough where you live to agree to this yourself (see Age).
- One person, one account. Don't make accounts to get around a limit or a ban.
- Keep your computer and your Google account safe. What's done from your account is on you.
What Sol is, and what it isn't
- Beta. Sol is unfinished. Features change or go away, the cloud can be down, and data can be lost. Keep your own copy of anything that matters. Your code belongs in your GitHub, not in Sol.
- The cloud has limits. A room holds 20 MB, a file 5 MB, a goal file 64 KB of text. Messages wait for an offline member for up to 7 days. Rooms are for working together, and they aren't storage.
- Your AI, your accounts. Sol connects to AI services such as Claude and ChatGPT through your own accounts. You are responsible for following those services' terms, and for what you ask them to do. We don't pay for, resell or control them.
- The code. You can read the Sol app's code in its repository. All rights reserved: anyone may read it, but nobody may copy, change or redistribute it without our permission. These terms cover the service we run, and that notice covers the code.
Your content
What you put in Sol stays yours. To run the service, you let us store it, copy it to the other members of your rooms, and back it up. We don't use it for anything else, and we don't train AI on it.
Don't
- Break the law, or help someone else break it.
- Harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, or share someone's private information without their permission.
- Post sexual content involving minors, content that promotes violence, or anything you don't have the right to share (someone else's copyrighted work, for example).
- Send spam or malware, or try to get into accounts, rooms or machines that aren't yours.
- Overload the cloud or get around its limits. Looking for security problems in good faith is welcome, as long as you follow the rules on Support.
Reports, removal and suspension
Anyone can report a room or something in it (see Support). We may remove content, close a room, or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, write to us and a person will look again. We close the accounts of people who infringe others' copyright again and again.
Leaving
You can stop using Sol at any time and ask us to delete your account (see Privacy). We can end the beta or the cloud. If we do, we'll tell you at least 30 days before, by email or in Sol, so you can take your data out, unless the law or a security problem gives us no time.
No promises, and limits
Sol is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We aren't liable for lost data, lost profits, or indirect damages from using Sol or not being able to use it. Otherwise, our total liability is limited to the greater of US$50 and what you paid us for Sol in the last twelve months. Some places don't allow these limits, and there they apply only as far as the law allows.
The law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. If one part of them can't be enforced, the rest still stands.
Changes
When these terms change, the date below changes. For a change that matters, we'll tell you by email or in Sol before it takes effect. If you keep using Sol's cloud after that, you accept the new terms.
